A long-awaited restart of the 2020 season for Schrötter and Lüthi
In July, after a four-month break, Marcel Schrötter and Tom Lüthi can go full throttle again at two consecutive Grand Prix in Jerez de Frontera. In the second half of 2020, at least 13 events are planned on being held at eight different venues.
After Marcel Schrötter and Tom Lüthi have started the 2020 season with full motivation at the Qatar Grand Prix on 8 March, they had no idea that the outbreak of the Corona pandemic would mean that it would take over four months before Moto2 competition could continue. With a seventh and tenth place finish, there was a strong urge to improve at the next race and catch up to the top.
Even though it took longer, the target is still the same and on 19 July the time will finally have come!! The Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto restarts the MotoGP World Championship of 2020.
In order to keep the travelling to a minimum, and to minimise the risk of the COVID-19 virus spreading again, some of the 13 races planned so far will be held on the same tracks for two consecutive weeks. This means that the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP team can look forward to the third race of the year, which will be the Andalusia Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera, just one weekend later on 26 July.
The season then continues in August with a single race in Brno/ Czech Republic. Afterwards, there will be two GPs in a row in Spielberg/ Austria followed by two events in Misano/ San Marino before the whole paddock makes its way to Barcelona and Le Mans and finally, another doubleheader will be held at the MotorLand Aragon and Valencia in October and November.
Before July 31st, Dorna will announce whether there will be any overseas events this season. These could possibly take place in the United States, Argentina, Thailand or Malaysia. According to the organizers' official announcement, the 2020 season will not end later than December 13th and will consist of a maximum of 17 events (including the Qatar Grand Prix). All dates, events and eventual admission of spectators are subject to the development of the pandemic and the approval of the relevant governments and authorities.
