Arbolino claims 9th place in MotorLand & Schrötter eleventh after intense battles

LIQUI MOLY Intact GP rider Tony Arbolino didn't let up for a second in the Aragon Grand Prix and was rewarded with ninth place. Marcel Schrötter initially rounded off the top ten but slipped to eleventh due to a track limits penalty.

Tony Arbolino did not give up hope and worked with a strong focus this weekend to finally achieve an upward trend again. Starting from 23rd on the grid, the Moto2 rookie once again faced a mammoth task, but he gritted his teeth and crossed the finish line a full 14 places higher after a hot 21-lap race at the Gran Premio de Aragon. After a difficult few weeks, the 21-year-old was delighted with his third top ten result of the season this Sunday. With the seven points gained, he moved up from 16th to 14th in the World Championship standings before heading to the Adriatic coast next week for his second home race.

Marcel Schrötter was well on his way to finishing seventh or eighth but after the 28-year-old had closed a large gap of three seconds to Ai Ogura in front of him, a relentless duel with the Japanese rider ensued. But although the LIQUI MOLY Intact GP rider had previously been at least five-tenths faster, he lost precious time as a result of the ongoing battles. Meanwhile, this gave Ferim Aldeguer with Tony Arbolino in tow the opportunity to catch up from behind. When the German managed to gain the upper hand in turn one on the last lap, his pursuers still refused to be shaken off. They took advantage of a brief moment when the Bavarian's door opened a minimal gap to pass him. In the process, he drifted slightly out onto the green and finally received a three-second penalty for exceeding the track limits.

With eleventh place, Marcel Schrötter has to go home rather frustrated, but in just a few days he can make up for everything at the San Marino Grand Prix at the Misano World Circuit in Italy from 17 to 19 September.
